In Italy, however, with the support of organized civil society and broad sectors of the political and judicial systems, efforts have been underway for nearly seventy years to develop a series of logical, modern, and interconnected tools to confront mafia organizations and to restore key democratic values that are eroded by mafia activity—chief among them, the public’s trust in
